do you listen to main stream music?

Does anyone listen to so called "main stream" music? Honestly, I can't even name any current artists besides the obvious. Instead I dig a lot more rare stuff or stuff no one has heard of! I like trance, esp. goa, and female singers, esp. goth and emo!

I listen to a lot of Max Richter - he is a modern classical composer who has done lots of stuff for TV and movies as well.

He is clearly influenced by Vivaldi, in fact a few years ago he did an amazing re-recording of 'The Four Seasons'.

I'm not really into classical. But I'm sure it can be relaxing!

It is both relaxing and also inspirational, surprisingly enough. I often use some stirring music playing in the bcakground when I am writing, to stimulate the creative juices...

Nice. I like music when I write as well. Usually something instrumental so I don't have to pay attention to the lyrics.

What counts as mainstream? Slipknot? lol I do occasionally like a Sabrina Carpenter bop or a few Doja Cat songs. Oliver Tree (RIP) made some bangers as well. Music is good. As long as it ain't country or hair metal

Mainstream i guess is something that appeal to a wide tranche of listeners. But, it's actually an intriguing question, with a frustratingly opaque answer.

Hair Metal 😂 I'm not into country at all. But by main stream I mean like all the drivel kids and young adults listen to religiously, and you can clearly tell none of them have any taste!

Well, tbh I don't know what kids like nowadays lol I've always sort of been in my own bubble, so I was never in touch with what anyone liked unless they told me as much.

I don't think there is any "main stream" anymore. I mean the days of top 40 and record companies colluding with radio stations to push artists is pretty much over. I never was a top 40 person anyway, it's always sucked.

There is a whole lot more variety these days.

And since I've always been into music that other people find strange I'm loving it.

But seriously, the last of the "main stream" bands were from the 1990's. I can't think of a single one that has domineered since then. There are plenty of new ones out there, and they are good, don't get me wrong. But they are all fighting for attention.

Yes, I see what you are saying. That's what I love about Youtube. Anybody can produce music and distribute it, even without a "label" these days. I've discovered SOO much music there.

I have a playlist on Spotify: DSTMYFB (Depressing Songs To Make You Feel Better). If It Makes You Happy by Sheryl Crowe. Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac. Love Is Just A Four-Letter Word by Joan Baez, etc.

I try to keep up with new Pop Punk bands...
